An interesting post on Poynter last week was dedicated to connecting entrepreneurial journalists.
Believe it or not, this is no small task. Maurreen Skowran, one of our Assignment Zero editors had this to say.
“The hard part would be finding each other and determining whether such a group would have enough interest and commitment. If it did, it could use one or more of these:
* Cambrian House, essentially an online open business incubator
* A custom social network, such as Ning
* A wiki, open or restricted to some degree — such as Journawiki (which I founded).”
Skowran brings up a good point. That’s part of the reason why this weekend we created a NewAssignment.Net group on Facebook. If you are on Facebook, just do a search for NewAssignment.Net — it’ll come up.
This will just be a space so that we can see each other, talk to each other seamlessly and hopefully, spur innovation in journalism.
Why?
NewAssignment.Net is run on Drupal — which has all the social networking features we could possibly need. We used a lot of those features for Assignment Zero. As we move forward, it’s hoped that we will further develop NewAssignment.Net to include simple and easy communication between members of NewAssignment.Net. But who likes waiting? Not us — so until we can equip NewAssignment.Net with all the functions we would want, Facebook can work wonders.
